Vishay IHXL: A Series of Very High Current Inductors

In part 4 of the Vishay Super 12 series, we focus on IHXL series presented by Vishay Intertechnology — one of the world's largest manufacturers of discrete semiconductors and passive electronic components. The company introduced the industry's first AEC-Q200 qualified inductor that offers a continuous current rating of 125 A.

The new inductor — Vishay Dale IHXL-2000VZ-5A — designed for automotive and industrial applications, features a 190 A saturation current for 20 percent inductance reduction and a continuous high-temperature operation up to +155 °C.

The newly released IHXL-2000VZ-5A, with varied mounting options like solder, welded, through-hole, or bolt-on, is optimized for hybrid electric vehicles (HEV), electric vehicles (EV), wind, and solar power applications. The device's case size with dimensions of 50.8 mm by 50.8 mm by 21.5 mm is the largest in the market available for composite inductors.

Key Features of Vishay’s High Current IHXL Series Inductor

The IHXL-2000VZ-5A incorporates a filtering frequency range up to SRF (13.1 MHz for 2.2 µH), a negligible inductance of 2.2 µH, and a very low DCR down to 0.21 mΩ. The inductor, specifically designed for an operating temperature range of -55 °C to +155 °C, is capable of managing high transient current surges without hard saturation. Other prime features of the AEC-Q200 qualified IHXL-2000VZ-5A include: 

  • High temperature, up to 155 °C
  • Shielded construction
  • Frequency range up to 5.0 MHz
  • Handles high transient current spikes without saturation
  • Ultra low buzz noise, due to composite construction
  • AEC-Q200 qualified

Vishay’s High Current IHXL Series Inductor is aimed at many applications in the automotive indsutry.

Vishay’s IHXL-2000VZ-5A is packaged in a 100 % lead (Pb)-free shielded composite construction that minimizes the buzzing noise to ultra-low levels. The RoHS-compliant device, created to provide high resistance to mechanical shock, moisture, and thermal shock, is halogen-free, and Vishay Green.
