The Samsung AutoCache™ Software is Now Available at WPG AmericasJune 22, 2017
WPG Americas Inc. is now stocking Samsung’s industry-leading AutoCache™ Software, designed to optimize virtual machine operations in VMware vSphere 6 Deployments.
Samsung Electronics, a world leader in advanced memory and storage technology, first unveiled the enterprise-class caching software solution at VMworld 2015. Samsung's collaborative partnership with VMware made the caching software an ideal match with the new VMware vSphere APIs for fully supporting write-back caching in virtualized environments.
AutoCache™ is designed to increase VM density, accelerate business-critical applications, and eliminate I/O bottlenecks in clogged systems by caching frequently accessed data on SSDs for quicker access. AutoCache™ offers both read caching (allowing the system to offload read requests from back end storage) and write back caching (where data is written to SSDs first and then copied to disk drives in the background, allowing the system to handle high bursts of write requests at SSD speeds instead of disk speeds).
“AutoCache™ provides a highly efficient way for IT managers to double, or even triple, the effective number of Virtual Machines supported per server,” said Thomas Bolt, vice president of software development, Samsung Semiconductor, Inc. “By improving server caching capabilities we are delivering superior storage performance for all enterprise SSDs, by simply moving the task of accessing stored data in virtual machines to the solid state drive itself.”
By eradicating the I/O bottlenecks in virtual environments with multiple Virtual Machines (VMs), AutoCache™ enables an increase in disk I/O performance of up to 400 percent or more. The technology integrates support for all SSD types including Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA), Serial Attached SCSI (SAS), and Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe) SSDs.
AutoCache™ can be used to accelerate a range of databases and workloads such as public and private cloud environments, Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), Online Transaction Processing (OLTP), data warehousing, real-time big data analytics, and business intelligence applications.
The software, specially optimized for use with Samsung SSDs, incorporates DRAM (Dynamic Random-Access Memory) caching, which allows caching to DRAM and solid state storage within the same server. The cutting-edge technology integrates adaptive caching, where the AutoCache™ software identifies I/O patterns to automatically cache only those I/Os that will benefit the most from caching.
Samsung’s transparent AutoCache™ technology provides vertical integration from the storage device to the host that optimizes virtualized data center environments by streamlining the workload of VMs servers while cutting down storage and caching costs. Moreover, the technology also enables IT managers to set individualized permission and access policies for their IT staff through role-based administration.
