MPS Releases Step-Down Module with Integrated Inductor
February 16, 2017
Monolithic Power Systems, leading international power solutions company headquartered in San Jose, California, introduces the industry’s smallest, High Efficiency, 0.6A, 5.5V, monolithic step-down switch mode converter with built-in internal power MOSFETs and inductor.
The step-down switch mode converter, released as MPM 3804, achieves 0.6A continuous output current from a 2.3V to 5.5V input voltage with exceptional load and line regulation.
The newly launched MPM 3804 requires a minimum number of external components that are readily available in the market. Only standard components like FB resistors, input and output capacitors and are required to complete the design.
The ultra-small device, with a regulated output voltage as low as 0.6V, integrates fault condition protection that includes cycle-by-cycle current limit and thermal shutdown.
Key Features of MPM 3804 Step-Down Switch Mode Converter
One of the prime features of MPM 3804 is its Constant-On-time (COT) control scheme, which delivers high light-load efficiency, fast transient response, and easy loop stabilization. Other key features of MPM 3804 include -
- Up to 91% Peak Efficiency
- Wide 2.3V to 5.5V Operating Input Range
- Fixed and Adjustable output from 0.6V
- 2mm x 2mm x 0.9mm QFN Package

Quick Start Guide for MPM 3804 Step-down Switch Mode Converter
The default output voltage of the board is set externally to 1.2V but it can be regulated to as low as 0.6V by operating from a +2.3V to +5.5V input.
- Connect the positive and negative terminals of the load to the VOUT and GND pins, respectively.
- Preset the power supply output between 2.3V and 5.5V, and then turn off the power supply.
- Connect the positive and negative terminals of the power supply output to the VIN and GND pins, respectively.
- Turn the power supply on. The board will automatically start up.
The MPM 3804 is now available off the shelf in an ultra-small QFN 10 (2x2mm) package. All MPS parts are lead-free, halogen-free, and adhere to the RoHS and MPS green directive.
