MPS Launches Two New High-Voltage Analog Switch ICs for Ultrasound Imaging Applications

Monolithic Power Systems (MPS), a leading international power solution provider for telecom infrastructures,  automotive, consumer, industrial, and cloud computing introduces two new high-voltage analog switch ICs, the MP4816, and MP4816A, for medical ultrasound imaging applications.

The new 180V, 16-channel analog switches can block or pass transmit signals of up to ±90V and can remarkably simplify power supply designs by eliminating the requirement of high-voltage supplies and support circuitry such as power up/down sequencers.

The analog switch ICs eliminate safety concerns with high-voltage DC lines on the cables and are ideal for medical applications due to its low power dissipation, enhanced reliability, and reduced size, as well as cost. 

MP4816 and MP4816A have been configured as single-pole, single-throw (SPST) analog switches, controlled by a 16-bit serial shift register with parallel latches. Both the analog switches incorporate an output switch resistance of 12.5Ω, which optimizes signal attenuation and image quality. Key Features of MP4816 High-Voltage Analog Switch IC

The 16-channel high voltage MP4816, ideally designed for medical ultrasound imaging applications, is modeled to multiplex the receive and transmit voltages to and from multiple piezoelectric transducers, and PZTs.

The industry-leading device integrates a data out, Dout, pin to allow cascading of multiple devices, which minimizes the number of input/output, I/O, and control lines. The switch, available in a 7mm x 7mm TQFP-48 package, can block or pass analog voltages up to ±90V with peak currents of up to ±2.0 and requires only two low voltage supplies of 3.3V and 10V.  MP4816 includes the following features:

Key Features of MP4816A High-Voltage Analog Switch IC

The MP4816A, also designed for medical ultrasound imaging applications, is a high voltage, single-pole, single-throw, SPST analog switch integrated with output bleed resistors.

The analog switch IC is managed by a 16-bit serial shift register followed by a 16-bit data latch. A logic High in the data latch turns on the corresponding analog switch whereas a logic Low turns it off.

MP4816A, like its counterpart MP4816, requires two low voltage supplies of 3.3V and 10V. The cutting edge device, available in a TQFP 48-pin 7mm x 7mm package, can block or pass analog voltages up to ±90V with peak currents of up to ±2.3A. Prime features of MP4816A include-
