MPM3515: Synchronous Step-Down Converter with an Integrated Inductor from MPS

MPM3515 from Monolithic Power Systems (MPS) is a synchronous, rectified, step-down converter with inbuilt capacitors, power MOSFETs, and inductors. The new step-down converter offers compact solutions, requiring only four external components to produce 1.5A of continuous output current with an exceptional load and line regulation over a wide range of input supply.

Operating with a 2.2MHz switching frequency, the MPM3515 achieves faster load transient response as compared to other available products. It simplifies power system designs by reducing the number of external components, delivering superb DC/DC solutions for a variety of industrial applications.

Operational Description of MPM3515 Synchronous Step-Down Converter

The PWM cycle of MPM3515 is initiated by an internal clock. The integrated high-side power MOSFET (HS-FET) turns on and stays on until the current equals the value fixed by the COMP voltage (VCOMP). If the power switch is off, it continues to remain off until the next clock cycle starts.

The MPM3515 operates in a fixed-frequency peak-current-control mode to regulate the system's output voltage. The power MOSFET is forced off if the MOSFET current fails to achieve the VCOMP value within 85% of a PWM cycle.
