The high-performance 10 Watt regulated and isolated DC-DC converter series, named MDWI10, is encapsulated in an industrial standard 16-Pin DIP shielded metal package that occupies only 0.5in2 of PCB space. Available in single and dual output models, the new series of isolated and regulated DC-DC converter units incorporate input range of 4:1 (9- to 36-VDC and 18- to 75-VDC), delivering 10 Watts of output power.
MINMAX’s MDWI10 series, the latest generation of high-performance 10 Watt regulated and isolated DC-DC converter modules available on the market today, sets a new benchmark with its industry-leading power density of 63.5W/in3. Besides setting new standards in power density, the DC-DC converter units, available in 16 different variants, incorporate a host of high-grade features, such as no minimum load requirement, overload protection, under-voltage protection, short circuit protection, very low no-load power consumption, fast start-up time, and ultra-wide 4:1 input voltage range.
Fully complying with safety approvals UL/cUL/IEC/EN 62368-1, UL/cUL/IEC/EN60950-1, and Conducted EMI filter EN55032 Class A without the need for any additional components, the MDWI10 series of 10 watt regulated and isolated DC-DC converter modules offer a superior solution for a range of critical applications in energy facilities, battery-powered equipment, industrial electronics, instrumentation, and distributed power architectures where the PCB space is limited. Output Ripple Reduction
Using a high-quality low Equivalent Series Resistance capacitor placed across the load will lower output ripple and optimize the performance of MDWI10 series DC-DC converter modules. It is recommended to apply 3.3μF capacitors at the output, to reduce the output ripple.
Input Source Impedance
The DC-DC converter modules should be always connected to a low ac-impedance input source. Stability might be affected if the converter units are connected to highly inductive source impedances. To ensure start-up, a capacitor on the input might be necessary, especially in applications where power is supplied over long lines, and in cases where the output loading is very high. A good quality low Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR < 1.0Ω at 100 kHz) capacitor of 2.2μF for 24V and 48V input devices, increases the stability of the power module.
Maximum Capacitive Load
The MDWI10 series of 10 watts regulated and isolated DC-DC converter modules have certain limitations concerning the maximum connected capacitance on the output. MINMAX suggests the use of capacitors at the point of load, otherwise, the power modules might operate in current limiting mode during start-up, which can severely impact the ramp-up and start-up time.
Factors like board spacing, orientation, and airflow, affect the thermal performance of power modules. It is advised to keep the case temperature below 105℃, to avoid damage due to overheating of components inside the DC-DC converters.
