MINMAX Releases New Medical-Approved DC-DC Converter RangesJuly 18, 2018

As demanded by medical safety standards, both MIW03M and MIW06M series of DC-DC converter ranges are rated for 5000 VAC, integrating reinforced insulation with two means of patient protection (2 × MOPP) and low leakage current (< 2μA) that ensures operator and patient protection. Most importantly, creepage and clearance distance meet 8mm. MINMAX MIW03M Series: Product Overview
Encapsulated within a DIP-24 package, the high-performance MIW03M series of medical approved 3.5W DC-DC converters are specifically designed for demanding healthcare applications. The high-grade converter range incorporates 21 models, available in a variety of input voltages ranging from 5 VDC to 48 VDC with a wide 2:1 input range. The series, rated for 250Vrms working voltage, has an I/O isolation of 5000VAC with reinforced insulation.
Additional features of the new DC-DC converter range include low leakage current 2μA, no min. load requirement, under voltage, overload, overvoltage, and short circuit protection. MINMAX MIW03M conforms to the 3rd edition of IEC/EN 60601-1 and ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1, meeting EMI conduction EN 55011 Class A. The operating ambient temperature range of the converter series spans from -40°C to 88°C without derating.
MINMAX MIW06M Series: Product Overview
The high-calibre MIW06M series of 6W medical approved DC-DC converters, encapsulated within a DIP-24 package, is designed for today’s highly critical medical applications. The range integrates 15 DC-DC converter models, made available in input voltages of 12 VDC, 24 VDC, and 48 VDC, with a wide 2:1 input range. The I/O isolation of the converter series is 5000 VAC with reinforced insulation, rated for 250Vrms working voltage.
The DC-DC converter range, in addition, incorporates top-grade features, including no minimum load requirement, low leakage current of 2μA max, overload, overvoltage, short circuit, and under-voltage protection. MINMAX MIW06M meets conducted EMI EN 55011 class A, conforming to the 3rd edition of IEC/EN 60601-1 and ANSI/AAMI ES 60601-1. The converter series includes a wide operating ambient temperature range of -40°C to 85°C, without derating.
New DC-DC Converter Ranges Comply with the Safety Distance as per the 3rd Edition of IEC 60601-1 Safety Standard
As specified in the 3rd edition of IEC 60601-1 safety standard, devices meant for medical applications must meet the safety distance for isolation voltage, creepage, and air clearance, to avoid hazards, and to ensure safety from transient voltage spikes, energy shocks due to excess energy discharge, insulation disruption of the power architecture, ignition, mechanical damage, fires, and shorts that can develop between PCB tracks, air gaps, arcing, or ground loops. These devices must comply with the leakage current guidelines, as mentioned in the 3rd Edition of IEC 60601-1 safety standard, during normal and single-fault conditions.
