MINMAX MIW10 Series: Isolated DC-DC Converter for Cost and Space Critical Applications

MINMAX Technology, a power solution specialist with over 26 years of experience as designers and manufacturers of DC-DC Converters and AC-DC Power Supplies recently launched their new MIW10 series for space critical applications.

The new MINMAX MIW10 series includes a range of cost-optimized 10W isolated dc-dc converters with a wide 2:1 input voltage range for 12, 24, and 48VDC power modules. The DC-DC Converter series integrates the best-in-class circuit topology that delivers an exceptionally high efficiency of 89%, achievable over an operating temperature range of  -40℃ to +85℃ with a low standby power consumption.

Technical Notes on MINMAX MIW10 DC-DC Converter series

Overload Protection 

The MIW10 isolated DC-DC Converter series is equipped with output overload protection facilitated by an internal current limiting circuitry that can withstand current limiting for an extended duration. The unit shifts to current control from voltage control during current-limit inception and starts functioning normally as soon as the output current is back into its standard range.

Overvoltage Protection 

The industry leading MIW10 series integrates an output overvoltage clamp consisting a control circuitry that monitors the voltage on output terminals. The control loop of the output overvoltage clamp is set at a higher voltage point than the primary loop, which reduces the risk of output overvoltage.

Maximum Capacitive Load

MINMAX MIW10 DC-DC converter has a limitation on maximum connected capacitance on the output and operates in current limiting mode at the time of start-up. More on the maximum capacitance of the power modules can be found in the data sheet.

Thermal Considerations

The thermal performance of MIW10 DC-DC power modules is optimized by thermal considerations like airflow, orientation, and board spacing. The case temperature should be kept below 105℃ to avoid the exceeding of maximum temperature rating within the converters.
