The Micron 5100 ECO SSD Completes 13x to 24x More Queries Per Hour Than Standard HDD Configuration

Both Micron 5100 ECO SSDs — the 4x 5100 ECO 8TB and 8x 5100 ECO 8TB — were pitched against the legacy HDD system with a maximum degree of parallelism to determine the queries per hour (QPH) for each configuration.

All three configurations were examined side by side, and the results revealed that Micron 4x 5100 ECO 8TB configuration achieved 26.6 QPH, and Micron 8x 5100 ECO 8TB configuration achieved 48.0 QPH, as compared to a weak show by the HDD configuration, which completed only 2 QPH at its optimal level.

Both 4x 5100 ECO 8TB SSD, and the 8x 5100 ECO 8TB SSD configurations proved their supremacy against the legacy system, recording an unprecedented difference of 13X and 24X respectively in overall QPH performance.

The Micron 5100 ECO 8TB SSDs Offer More Energy-efficient BI Insights

Apart from testing QPH capabilities, the Micron 5100 ECO SSDs were also put under the scanner along with the legacy HDD system to measure the energy efficiency for each configuration.

The power draw by each configuration and the time taken to process the test query set at DoP=7 was first recorded, and then, the total energy consumed (kWh) was measured to complete the test.

The results registered by the 5100 ECO 8TB SSDs was once again unmatched, with both 4x 5100 ECO 8TB and 8x 5100 ECO 8TB proving to be more energy efficient than the legacy HDD configuration on BI platforms.

The magnitude of energy consumption by the HDD configuration was recorded at 3.24 kWh, with Micron 4x 5100 ECO 8TB SSD consuming only 10.6 percent of the total energy consumed by the legacy system.

The 8x 5100 ECO 8TB SSD configuration displayed even lower energy consumption, consuming only 9.6 percent of the total energy used by the legacy configuration on the same query set.

After the tests, there is really no debate left about which storage solution is a better option to drive Business Intelligence systems for faster results and more informed, precise decision making. The Micron 5100 ECO 8TB SSDs are a clear winner.
